3 Ways to Help You Choose the Right Kitchen Cabinets

Posted on February 25, 2020March 6, 2020 by standard

Kitchen cabinets are typically considered to be one of the most expensive and most important choices you will make during a kitchen remodel or renovation. Believe it or not, your kitchen cabinets may actually account for 40 percent of the overall budget of the project. Kitchen cabinets have a major impact on the look and feel of the overall room.

So if you are looking to change your kitchen and update your cabinets, here are three important things to keep in mind while making this big decision!

Keep your budget realistic

As you now know, the cost of kitchen cabinets will take up a large percentage of your budget for a kitchen remodel or renovation. For that reason, you will want to take the time to research different kitchen cabinet options. Not only is this important to get ideas, it is also important to see what options lie within your budget. Typically, there are three different categories of budgets that are priced out based on the work required to get the job done.

The cheapest option to choose from is stock cabinets, which start at around $70 per linear foot. Up next are semi-custom cabinets, which range from about $150 to $250 per linear foot.  The most expensive option, fully custom cabinets, can easily cost up $500 per linear foot.

Step 2: Choose the right style

One you have identified your budget; you will then have to choose between two dominant styles of kitchen cabinets. The first one is framed cabinets, while the second option is frameless cabinets. Framed cabinets are made of a box and face frame, with the Kitchen Cabinet Doors and drawers attached to that frame. Frameless cabinets do not have the face frame as doors and drawers are instead attached directly to the cabinet box itself.

Choosing which of these two styles is right for you largely depends on what your budget for the job is. Usually, frameless cabinets cost more money and take more time to install. Of course, that means that you will likely end up paying more money. That being said, the styles can be radically different, so if you simply love the frameless look, chances are good it will be worth it to spend the extra dough.

Step 3: Be choosy with special features and add-onsĀ

Kitchen cabinets are not only necessary to change and improve the look and feel of your kitchen. They are also built to improve the functionality of your kitchen. You should use your remodel or renovation to make your kitchen work better for you and your family. That means different things to different people.

One thing to consider is building in special features that you will use. Like the homes in The Villages, FL the builder custom built a lot of those cabinets. Some of the most popular features include pull-out trash cans, pull-out cutting boards, under-cabinet lights, and charging ports for your smartphone and other handy devices.

One thing to keep in mind is that these feature additions can increase the cost of the job by at least 20 percent!

Given the price, you will help remain within your budget if you keep add-ons and special features to your kitchen cabinets to a minimum. If you are thinking about add-on features, make sure that they are not a fad and will be useful for many years into the future, both for your family or any family you end up selling your home to.
